POST/v1/cards/archive

Upload an archive of documents

upload_card_archive

Send a ZIP archive in the file field of a multipart/form-data form. Each supported file inside becomes a separate document, as with single uploads (POST /v1/cards). ASiC signature containers (.asice, .sce, .bdoc, .asics) are archives too: their data files become documents, META-INF/ is skipped, and the signature is not verified. The form fields are the same as for a file upload (collection, tags, owner, category, sensitivity), without preview.

The archive is checked by signature (a renamed Office document does not count as an archive and returns 415 files.type_mismatch), the installation's upload limit applies, and antivirus scanning covers the whole archive.

The table of contents is checked synchronously. The response contains the plan (which files become documents, which are skipped and why) and the extraction job (job_id, batch_id). The job opens nested archives (up to 3 levels by default), checks each document by signature and antivirus, and queues it for regular indexing with the same batch_id (document progress: GET /v1/jobs?batch=). The result is available from GET /v1/archives/{job_id}.

Limits (installation defaults): up to 1000 files in the whole tree (more returns 413 cards.archive_too_many_files), up to 2048 MB unpacked (more returns 413 cards.archive_too_large) and no more than the organization's remaining storage under its plan (402 limits.storage), the per-file upload limit for each file inside, and a compression ratio of at most 100:1 per entry. Entries with “..”, an absolute path or a drive letter, symbolic links, encrypted entries and unsupported formats are skipped with a reason (skipped[].reason). OS system files, directories and empty files are skipped silently (ignored). Names that are not in UTF-8 are read as cp866 or cp1251. A file that is not a ZIP returns 400 cards.archive_invalid, a fully encrypted archive returns 400 cards.archive_encrypted, and an archive without a single document returns 400 cards.archive_empty.

Each document remembers its archive: CardVersion.archive and Card.source_archive (the card shows the archive of its current version).

Instead of the form, you can send an application/json body (ArchiveUploadFromUpload, since 1.62.0): the archive is a ready multipart upload upload_id (the archive purpose), the fields are the same as in the form, and tags is a list of strings. The archive was already checked at complete, and the size limit is the multipart upload limit instead of the single-request upload limit. The upload is used once, in the same transaction that queues the extraction job; the upload error codes are the same as for POST /v1/cards.

Authentication

Send an API key in the Authorization header: Authorization: Bearer <key>.

Header parameters

  • Idempotency-Keystring

Key for a safe retry of a write: 1 to 255 printable ASCII characters; a UUID v4 per logical operation is recommended. A retry with the same key within 24 hours does not run the operation again: it returns the saved response (status, headers and body) with the Idempotency-Replayed: true header. The same key with a different method, path, Content-Type or body returns 409 api.idempotency_mismatch; while the first request is still running, 409 api.idempotency_in_progress with Retry-After: 1. After a 5xx or 429 response the key is released, and a retry runs the operation again. The key is scoped to the organization and the caller (API key, user, or custom source key).

    length ≥ 1, length ≤ 255

  • X-View-Asstring

For API keys with the admin role only. Makes the request as the data profile <profile>[:viewer|verifier|editor], for example employee:viewer. The installation key cannot use this header (403).

Cookie parameters

  • kb_view_asstring

Cookie of the “View as” mode for a session. POST /auth/view-as sets it and DELETE /auth/view-as clears it.

Request body

multipart/form-data

Object: ArchiveUploadForm

  • filestring (application/zip)required
  • collectionstring

    Default: "default"

  • tagsstring

    Default: ""

  • forceboolean

    Default: false

  • owner_idinteger | null
  • verify_interval_daysinteger | null
  • categorystring | null
  • sensitiveboolean | null
  • folder_idstring | null

Folder of the collection to put all documents of the archive in. A folder of another collection returns 400 folders.card_collection_mismatch, a missing folder returns 404 folders.not_found, and no COLLECTION_EDIT_CARDS permission on the folder returns 403 authz.forbidden. The check runs before the archive is saved. Duplicates of files that are already uploaded are not moved into the folder.

    length ≤ 64

  • collection_idinteger | null

Collection by ID. When collection is passed too, collection_id wins. A collection that does not exist in the organization or is not visible returns 404 collections.not_found.

application/json

Object: ArchiveUploadFromUpload

  • upload_idstringrequired

A ready upload (ready) with the archive purpose; it is used once.

  • collectionstring

    Default: "default"

  • collection_idinteger | null

Collection by ID. When collection is passed too, collection_id wins. A collection that does not exist in the organization, is not visible or is outside the collections of the key returns 404 collections.not_found.

  • tagsarray of string

    items ≤ 30

  • forceboolean

    Default: false

  • owner_idinteger | null
  • verify_interval_daysinteger | null
  • categorystring | null
  • sensitiveboolean | null
  • folder_idstring | null

Responses

Response headers

  • RateLimit-Policy

Limits in effect, in the format of the IETF draft draft-ietf-httpapi-ratelimit-headers: comma-separated items "<name>";q=<quota>;w=<window in seconds>. key is the request rate of the API key (the quota is the burst, the window is the time to refill it fully; for a session it is user, without credentials ip); minute, day and month are the organization's quotas for the calendar minute, day and month in UTC.

  • RateLimit

What is left of each limit in RateLimit-Policy: "<name>";r=<remaining>;t=<seconds until reset>.

  • X-RateLimit-Limit

Limit of the strictest entry in RateLimit-Policy (the one with the fewest requests left).

  • X-RateLimit-Remaining

Requests left under the strictest limit.

  • X-RateLimit-Reset

Seconds until the strictest limit resets.

  • Idempotency-Replayed

true means the response was replayed from the saved one for this Idempotency-Key: the operation did not run again.

application/json

Object: ArchiveUploadResult

  • job_idintegerrequired
  • batch_idstringrequired

Batch of indexing jobs for the documents of the archive (GET /v1/jobs?batch=).

  • statusstringrequired

    Allowed values: queued

  • archiveArchiveInforequired
  • plannedarray of stringrequired

Paths of the files at all levels that will become documents, including files in nested archives (b.zip/c.pdf).

  • documentsintegerrequired

Number of documents at all levels, including files in nested archives. The extraction result adds up to the same number: created + duplicates + rejected by the content check (ArchiveJob).

  • nested_archivesintegerrequired
  • skippedarray of ArchiveSkiprequired
  • ignoredintegerrequired

System entries (OS files, directories, empty files, container signatures).

400The request is invalid: a parameter value or the state of the object does not allow the action (`detail` is a message).

Error codes

Codes this endpoint can return in error.code, besides the general codes of every request.

Safe retries

Send an Idempotency-Key header (for example a UUID) with each POST and PATCH. A retry with the same key within 24 hours returns the saved response instead of running the request again.

Rate limits

Responses carry the RateLimit and RateLimit-Policy headers and the earlier X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset. A 429 response has Retry-After in seconds: wait and retry.
