POST/v1/users/import

Import users from CSV

users_import

Send a CSV file in the csv field. The first row is the header. The delimiter is , or ; and is detected from the header. The encoding is UTF-8 (a BOM is allowed), with up to 1000 data rows.
Columns: email (required; aliases e-mail, mail, почта), name (display_name, имя), role (admin, editor, verifier, viewer; alias роль), groups (группы; separate several groups with | or ;, by key or by name of a regular group), profile (data_profile, профиль; the data profile key). Unknown columns are skipped and listed in ignored_columns.

With dry_run: true (the default), returns a preview without changes: the action and the errors for each row. Otherwise, rows without errors are executed:
- invite: sends an invitation with the role, profile and name from the file. An email is sent if mail is configured, and the link is returned in the response.

- exists: a user with this email already exists. The user is added to the groups from the file; the role and profile do not change.

- pending: an invitation to this address is already waiting to be accepted. The groups from the file are added to it.

Rows with errors are skipped. Invited users join their groups when they accept the invitation. create_groups creates missing regular groups; without it, an unknown group is a row error. The plan's user limit and the subscription seats are checked for all new invitations at once: if they are not enough, nothing is executed (402). The limit on manual invitations (50 pending) does not apply to imports. Requires the ORG_MANAGE_USERS permission. Writes the users.import event to the audit log, and invitation.create for each invitation.

Authentication

Send an API key in the Authorization header: Authorization: Bearer <key>.

Header parameters

  • Idempotency-Keystring

Key for a safe retry of a write: 1 to 255 printable ASCII characters; a UUID v4 per logical operation is recommended. A retry with the same key within 24 hours does not run the operation again: it returns the saved response (status, headers and body) with the Idempotency-Replayed: true header. The same key with a different method, path, Content-Type or body returns 409 api.idempotency_mismatch; while the first request is still running, 409 api.idempotency_in_progress with Retry-After: 1. After a 5xx or 429 response the key is released, and a retry runs the operation again. The key is scoped to the organization and the caller (API key, user, or custom source key).

    length ≥ 1, length ≤ 255

Request body

application/json

Object: UsersImportRequest

  • csvstringrequired

Content of the CSV file in UTF-8.

    length ≥ 1, length ≤ 2000000

  • dry_runboolean

Preview only (the default). false executes the rows without errors.

    Default: true

  • default_rolestring

Role for rows without a role column or with an empty cell.

    Default: "viewer"

  • default_profilestring | null

Data profile for rows without a profile. If empty, the organization's default profile is used (admins get full access).

  • create_groupsboolean

Create missing regular groups. Without this flag, an unknown group is a row error.

    Default: false

  • ttl_daysinteger

Validity of the invitations in days.

    Default: 7≥ 1, ≤ 30

Responses

200Preview or result of the import, row by row

Response headers

  • RateLimit-Policy

Limits in effect, in the format of the IETF draft draft-ietf-httpapi-ratelimit-headers: comma-separated items "<name>";q=<quota>;w=<window in seconds>. key is the request rate of the API key (the quota is the burst, the window is the time to refill it fully; for a session it is user, without credentials ip); minute, day and month are the organization's quotas for the calendar minute, day and month in UTC.

  • RateLimit

What is left of each limit in RateLimit-Policy: "<name>";r=<remaining>;t=<seconds until reset>.

  • X-RateLimit-Limit

Limit of the strictest entry in RateLimit-Policy (the one with the fewest requests left).

  • X-RateLimit-Remaining

Requests left under the strictest limit.

  • X-RateLimit-Reset

Seconds until the strictest limit resets.

  • Idempotency-Replayed

true means the response was replayed from the saved one for this Idempotency-Key: the operation did not run again.

  • created_groupsarray of stringrequired

400The request is invalid: a parameter value or the state of the object does not allow the action (`detail` is a message).

Error codes

Codes this endpoint can return in error.code, besides the general codes of every request.

Safe retries

Send an Idempotency-Key header (for example a UUID) with each POST and PATCH. A retry with the same key within 24 hours returns the saved response instead of running the request again.

Rate limits

Responses carry the RateLimit and RateLimit-Policy headers and the earlier X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset. A 429 response has Retry-After in seconds: wait and retry.
